General Presentation

ENSIL, is a state-owned advanced engineering school in Limoges, and is part of Limoges University. ENSIL’s objective is to train multi-skilled engineers to a high scientific and technical level. About 140 students graduate every year in four different disciplines:

                        - Water and Environnement (EAU)
                        - Electronics and Telecommunications (ELT)
                        - Materials (MAT)
                        - Mechtronics (MIX)*

* « Mechatronics » speciality was created in 1999, after the accordance of the Title Engineering Commission.

ENSIL is entitled to grant the engineering diploma through its recognition by the CTI (Commission des Titres d’Ingénieurs ) and is supervised by the Higher Education and Research Ministry. ENSIL recruits 150 students every year and is very proud of its diverse international intake (France, Europe, North Africa, Asia, ,the Far East…). Students are required to learn two foreign languages and many international exchanges have been developed ( 56 partnerships with foreign schools and universities exist at present).

Situated at the heart of ESTER Technopole ( a science and technology park ) the school has many connections with industry and actively participates in research within four competitive sectors: ELOPSYS, the European Ceramics Centre, InnoViandes, Viaméca.

Open to the business world, ENSIL lays the emphasis on the professional relevance of its teaching, as indicated by the number of lecturers drawn from the world of business and industry, which currently stands at 30%.

ENSIL students are trained in management, human resources and communication as well as law and finance therefore increasing their adaptability in the workplace. They quickly find employment (normally within two months of graduating) due to a comprehensive working knowledge of the world of industry developed through a total of 12 months of industrial placements during their three year course, plus numerous individually tutored industrial projects.

An ENSIL engineer will be able to:

                        - Apply for positions of responsibility both in research and development and production
                        - Adapt to various situations, to understand others, to manage projects and motivate team-members.
                        - Work in an international context.

The formation

The three year course at ENSIL includes lectures, tutorials and practical work. It is complemented by projects and placements in industry beginning in the 1st year.
                        - Practical work is carried out in groups of 12 students.
                        - Tutorials are taught in groups from 18 students (English classes) to 24.

The training includes scientific teaching, engineering sciences, human and managerial sciences and specialized teaching.

- 1st year : 900 hours, including 580 hours of core curriculum, 320 hours of specialized teaching and a business awareness placement (1 - 2 month)

- 2nd year : 850 hours, including 250 hours of core curriculum, 600 hours of specialized teaching (including a project with a firm or laboratory ) and a three to four-month technical training period.

- 3rd year : 600 hours, including 150 hours of core curriculum, 450 hours of specialized teaching (including a project with a firm or laboratory ) and a four to six-month end-of-study placement with a dissertation.

Internships

Students make during their studies 3 internships in France or abroad. The goal is to familiarise he students with professional situation. The future engineer must be positionned and capitalised the knowledges and professional expericences which come to complete the skills.

- 1st year :The first internship, generally of 1 or 2 month duration (starting from july), is a working training. This training permit him to through the school pedagogic context to the professional world.

- 2nd year :it takes 3 month (starting from july). It is as position as engineer assistant and it is axed on a technologic or technico-economic problem. This training is evaluating the hability of the student to face the encountered problems, to work on them and solve them.

- 3rd year :The end studies project (or PFE), of 4 to 6 month duration (starting from april), must finish on a employment in the concerned company. The interest is to be positioned on a mission where the engineer has the complete responsability of a high level project. It is adviced to find a training closest to his favorite domain. The student must use the skills and knowledges learned during his studies and those learned in the company.
